Squier Avril Lavigne Telecaster in black

Squier Avril Lavigne Telecaster in black

Now here’s a guitar that will appeal to all of the young wannabee teenage female guitar players hoping to follow in the footsteps of US rockette Avril Lavigne.

Squier have released the Avril Lavigne signature model Telecaster electric guitar which is undoubtedly aimed at the aspiring younger female market point.

The basswood body means that this guitar will be light when worn with a strap to facilitate leaping about the stage in true rock-star style. As with most Telecasters the neck is Maple with a Rosewood fret board and curved headstock with unbranded chrome machine heads. However, additionally the headstock features Avril Lavigne’s own signature as a kind of verification that this model is an authentic signature model.

The pick-up configuration seems alarmingly simple at first sight with just a single dual-coil hum-bucker located at the bridge position. However, on closer inspection it appears that the accompanying 3 way blade type selector switch offers a coil-tap option configured as follows :-

Position 1 (Switch pointing towards neck)    =   Front coil of Hum-bucker

Position 2 (Switch in middle position)           =   Both coils of Hum-bucker

Position 3 (Switch pointing towards bridge) =   Rear coil of Hum-bucker

The bridge is the standard 6 saddle string-thru-body arrangement and along with the volume knob, machine heads and controls base plate is chrome plated. A noticeable change on this signature model is that the jack input is on the face of the guitar where the tone pot would normally be found rather than on the edge of the body as is the norm with almost all Telecasters.

Other immediately identifiable differentials are the striking black and white “checkerboard” scratch-plate, the side position only fret markers, a uniquely identifiable “Star” logo on the 5th fret of the neck and the Squier engraved rear neck plate.
